Kurt McVay
Square Bowls
It all began in 1983 in Seattle, Washington. Starting off with a small studio and selling out of his home, Kurt's business has grown into a masterpiece of its own. With a 10,000 square foot studio and worldwide clientele he has become known for producing exquisite work..
The studio is a remodeled 3-story barn used in the early 1900's first for cattle, then for chickens, and now for the fine art of glass making.
Although custom work and imprinting is welcomed, we stock thousands of items and can deliver quickly.
Keeping this ancient art alive has always been one of Kurt's goals. He built his his own kilns and firing ovens with knowledge acquired over the past 20 years.
Fusing is a type of Kiln-Formed glass that's characterized by the cutting and layering of cold glass, then closed-oven melting. The many techniques that are used to complete each piece include hot cane making, etching and ceramic mold casting. Each piece requires two or more firings.
