Kaleidoscope designers Bob and Sue Rioux have been working with glass since 1976 and are using their skill and creativity to design and create beautiful and exotic works of art.
From their salt marsh studio in the quiet town of Kennebunkport, Maine they create scopes ranging from simple traditional to one of a kind and limited edition pieces, using many different mirror configurations.
As member of the Brewster Society, the kaleidoscope community's most prestigious group, the Riouxs were honored in 1996 with the Society's Best Limited Edition Kaleidoscope Award for "Clifford - Kaleidoman". They hold these awards as high praise as they are voted on by their piers. Their young son Alex, having been surrounded with the creative process all his life, also designs and makes his own scopes. In 1998 Alex won the Brewster Society's Best new Artist Award.
The Riouxs have been privileged to have their works displayed in many fine galleries and exhibits in the US and abroad including national Geographic Exhibit on Glass, the national Quilt Museum and the Teruko Tsuji Memorial Art Museum in Japan. Their work is featured, along with other kaleidoscope artists, in Kaleidoscopes Wonders of Wonder the latest book by Cozy Baker.
The artistic goals of the Riouxs include creating pieces that are as beautiful inside as they are outside, as well as having each piece be a timeless work of art that will become a family treasure. The high standards of craftsmanship that they maintain insures that these goals are achieved.
